Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston

The Challenge: Wall Talk is a community outreach program aimed at middle and high school students, designed to foster personal connections to contemporary art. Over multiple visits the students studied two exhibitions at the ICA. After reflecting on the themes of the exhibitions, they were asked to take pictures of their daily lives, write stories and personal memoirs.

The Graphic Group Difference: The project was a natural for digital printing. Multiple original pages combined with a short run publication length is the ideal formula for digital printing. Binding the differently sized books efficiently while maintaining the overall integrity was paramount. The Graphic Group’s experience with multiple print disciplines was the key to the solution. We were able to saddle-stitch most of the books while perfect binding the two larger books.

Hollywood Express

The Challenge: Hollywood Express provides discounted rental coupon books for its members. Managing the inventory and tracking coupon redemptions needed an automated system. They decided the most accurate way to achieve their goals was to barcode each coupon with a unique code. There are five different coupon designs bound in books of ten or twenty. The work seemed perfect for a four color digital variable print workflow. However the books had historically printed two color using metallic inks. Hollywood Express felt strongly that the metallic look represented their brand and were not willing to print the coupons digitally.

The Graphic Group Difference: The Graphic Group now prints the coupon books using multiple print disciplines. The individual coupons are printed on flat sheets with metallic inks. The flat sheets are then imprinted digitally, with a unique barcode for every coupon. The sheets are collated, trimmed out, and then stitched with a cover. Digital printing is the only way the bar coding could be handled. As a single source solutions provider, the Graphic Group provides a complete and transparent workflow to Hollywood Express.

CC&R Healthcare Solutions

The Challenge: CC&R Healthcare Solutions was formed by a local nurse who saw the need to educate and train healthcare providers in proper medication administration procedures. The program is a comprehensive course consisting of a student handbook, a teachers manual, and supplemental CD. CC&R approached the Graphic Group to manage the creative process, produce the course material, warehouse it, and ship orders as they arrived.

The Graphic Group Difference: The Graphic Group’s design and production staff worked closely with CC&R to develop content. The result was two books with over two hundred pages each. The publications are produced using both offset and digital printing. Covers are printed two color offset and the text pages are printed digitally. The CD is silk screened with black ink. The Graphic Group’s expertise in multiple print disciplines along with our ability to take a project from concept through production made this project a success for CC&R.

Boston Children’s Hospital

The Challenge: Children’s Hospital Multimedia Department handles marketing and advertising creative requests for the entire hospital. Children’s hosts scores of seminars, meetings, and training sessions annually. The events vary in size but regardless of size they all require invitations, postcards, meeting graphics, and training material. Children’s approached the Graphic Group looking for a single source production management solution.

The Graphic Group Difference: Our command of multiple print disciplines allows us to produce the multimedia department’s work using the best possible print method. Much of the work is printed digitally. We’re vigilant to ensure that quality is never sacrificed for speed. We’re careful to apply technology where it benefits the hospital, often integrating print and mail information into a variable print solution.
